To Thine Own Self Be True

Students in upper school art in Ms. Stephens and Ms. Coleman’s class created artful self-portraits using selfie photos as inspiration. Students used shading with charcoal, cut-outs from magazines, and various other media to create artful portraits in various colors that showcased aspects of their identity. Come check out the amazing artwork which is presented on the central stairwell.

In the fifth and sixth grade Roman banquet, students showcased their knowledge of Latin and Roman history and culture. Students wore traditional Roman costumes, and ate traditional foods of celebration and festivities, including cheese, fruit, and stew.  The event was a culmination of their first year of study at Washington Latin, and was organized by Ms. Rose and Ms. Starnes this year.

Farewell, Thou Lob of Spirits

In celebration of the end of their middle school career, eighth graders began the annual Spirit Week this week. Students dressed showing Latin Pride for Advisory Feud on Thursday. On Friday, students dressed for matchy/match day, finding twins or triplets to showcase the same outfit, or wearing clothes in a monochromatic style.  On Monday, students will showcase their fanciest duds for Dress-Up day, and on Tuesday students will have Advisory Olympics, a chance to dress in their advisory color and showcase their athletic and academic prowess through basketball, sprints, soccer, and It’s Academic, along with their advisory cheer.  This is the final segment of the year long competition that marks eighth grade and helps students bond with their advisories.

If Thou Wilt Lend This Money..Lend it Rather to Thine Enemy

If Thou Wilt Lend This Money..Lend it Rather to Thine Enemy

For the annual Penny Wars fundraiser, during lunch, each advisory will have a large water jug with the advisor’s name on it. Students will try to earn points for their advisory, by putting pennies in their advisories’ water jugs, and putting any currency that is greater than a penny in another advisory’s water jug. That will deduct the number of points from that advisory that the currency is worth. The Community Council will calculate the total points at the end of the Penny Wars, and the winning advisory in each grade will win an ice cream party!
