Cooper Campus Afterschool Program

Magis ([màh-gis] Latin adv., more, better) is our afterschool program at Cooper. Through MAGIS we seek to provide a safe, structured space where students can receive enrichment after classes end. Participants in MAGIS @ Cooper will have the opportunity to engage in a small variety of programs throughout the 2022-23 school year.

MAGIS @ Cooper will serve students Monday through Thursday until 6:00 pm. The program is not offered on Fridays, school holidays, nor half-days. Students may enroll in the program for up to 4 days per week each session, or for the entire school year. We are also happy to have students drop-in from time to time, though we may not be able to accommodate a particular program as those are offered on an as-is basis.

Daily Schedule

Students participating in MAGIS @ Cooper must be picked up by 6:00 pm. Note that there is no late bus from Cooper Campus. We ask that you work with us to honor this end time, but also understand that emergencies can happen. In the event of such a sporadic circumstance, please do not hesitate to communicate your needs. Note that after 6:05 pm, a $3.00 per minute charge will be incurred. Any additional fees collected will go towards the MAGIS @ Cooper afterschool program.

Community Council (Student Government)

The purpose of the Community Council @ Cooper is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership skills, through the organization and execution of school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the Community Council @ Cooper representatives who were elected in October serve as the voice of the student body. Other students are also welcome to participate in this Magis session, though they will not vote. Write your own novel!

Is it possible to write a whole book in a month?
Every year, around 100,000 students across the world take on the challenge to write their own book during the month of November! Cooper students, we offer you a special MAGIS program to take on this challenge. Participants will not only get a chance to improve their writing, they’ll also learn how to set and achieve a long-term goal and develop their self-confidence.

Each day will include a brief lesson, check-ins, and most especially time to write! We will begin in October to give students a chance to create their characters, settings, and plots. This activity will be coordinated via the NaNoWriMo (“National Novel Writing Month,” a 501(c)(3)) Young Writers Program.
