Science Research Matters

Students in Ms. Jost’s Scientific Research Methods class visited the Children’s National Hospital Research Week. They saw various research presentations, learning about everything from the impact of various methods of surgery to the impacts of concussions on mental health. Engineers, doctors and researchers shared their research studies, including their methodology and results. For students, this was an exciting chance to see how important research is in the medical field and to help prepare for showcasing their semester-long research projects. You can see an interview of senior Miranda Ryan at the event here.

Looking Ahead to College

This Thursday, Juniors attended a spring charter school college fair at Thurgood Marshall Academy. At this point in the year, juniors and their parents have already sat for meetings to launch their college discovery process and proposed a list of prospective colleges.  Students will continue to build on their list as they consider what types of schools fit their interests, skills, and intended areas of study.  There were almost 90 colleges represented at the fair. Speaking to college representatives is a great way to start building relationships with schools and learning about the application process.
