Beauty in the Eyes of the Beholders

Students in Honors Humanities visited the National Gallery as part of their study of the unit on Beauty. Teachers Mr. Clausen and Mr. Hultgren participated in the trip with their classes. Students will have to write a paper on a particular object they see on the trip and how it fits into the notions of beauty. Beauty was considered one of the ultimate classical values, alongside goodness, truth, and justice. Before the class trip, students read various philosophers to understand different approaches to beauty, and considered the art they observed from these perspectives.

There are two sections of AP Literature this year, with parties Wednesday and Friday.  Students were assigned roles of characters in Jane Austen books and dressed and acted the part as they engaged in simulated discussions. The school offers AP Literature and AP Language and Composition classes.
