This summer, over a hundred students gathered at Washington Latin PCS for the 4th Annual Matthew Ornstein Summer Debate Institute. Thirty-four of the debaters came from WLPCS, and many earned nods for their excellent rhetorical and persuasive skills. In the novice division, Isabelle Charles and her partner came in second, Elizabeth Campbell and and her partner earned fourth, Immanuel Charles and Sheridan Easterling came in fifth, Brooke Robinson and her partner came in sixth, Damilola Akinsanya and Lily Williams came in ninth, Claire Campbell and her partner came in twelfth, Angie Sturr and and her partner came in thirteenth. In their individual competitions as speakers, Elizabeth Campbell came in fourth, Liam Murphy earned a fifth, Sheridan Easterling earned sixth, Immanuel Charles earned tenth, Lena Webb earned thirteenth place, and Isabelle Charles earned fourteenth place. In the junior varsity division for more experienced debaters, Robbie Mirabello and his partner earned sixth place, Nassir Purnell-Snowden and his partner earned seventh place, and Brandon Souverain and Maxwell Burton finished in ninth place. For our most experienced varsity debaters Jackson Lewis and D’Andre Person scored an eighth place visit. Washington Latin reading teacher Ms. Lee-Bey coaches the team of outstanding young wordsmiths in their public speaking skills.
