College students in Princeton University’s “Breakout” Spring Break program visited Washington Latin on Tuesday. The students had chosen to spend their week looking at social issues related to the pipelines of education and opportunity. They selected Washington Latin as a school to visit after contacting Princeton graduate Ms. Smith through the school’s alumni network. They also visited think tanks, the Heritage Foundation, the Charles Sumner School, and the NAACP. Students asked Ms. Smith how a curriculum that focuses on humanities and the classical tradition can help provide opportunities for higher learning and close the achievement gap.
