On Tuesday the upper school DC History Class journeyed to Great Falls National Park to see the Fall Line. The park is located in Virginia along the Potomac River in Northern Fairfax County. 

Senior Recitations took place after school Wednesday. All seniors select a classical or modern text to recite by memory that embodies a central tenet of their Washington Latin education. In reciting the words, students showcase their reading and public speaking skills that they have honed over their Washington career.

Several upper school students will take part in field trips over break. One group is traveling to Morocco in a trip organized by senior Owen Doherty and run by an outside organization. Upper level Latin students will be traveling to Rome in a field trip chaperoned by Latin teachers Ms. McBride, Ms. Sisk and Chemistry teacher Mr. Edwards-Stuart. Chinese Teacher Mr. Liu will be the lead chaperone for the trip to Taiwan for advanced Chinese students, accompanied by US Dean Ms. Pettiford and English teacher Mr. Hultgren. Meanwhile, Mr. Day, Ms. David, and Mr. Goff will be chaperoning a field trip focusing on the history of the Civil Rights Movement through the American South. 

Ninth graders in the upper school took part in performances of scenes from King Lear after school on Thursday. Students read the play in their English classes and watched a performance of it at Shakespeare Theater Company. 

Second Street Sixth grader Evie Paisner won the annual Pi Day competition by reciting 200 digits of pi. Other participants included seventh grader Will Hocine and fifth grader Lilah Anker-Sherer. These three squared off to share their skills at reciting Pi digits. Other participants paid money for raffle tickets for the chance to throw a whipped cream pie in their teachers’ faces.
