One of the ways students chose to volunteer this Martin Luther King Jr Day was to make over 400 Valentine’s Day cards for senior citizens and veterans.  Meanwhile, on Valentine’s Day upper school students continued to spread the love, by delivering the cards to homes for the elderly and veterans who served in WWII. The volunteers, lead by Ms. Prue and Ms. Foster ,included senior Baily Pinkney, juniors Meg Grieve, Tonae Crawford, and Shania Phelps, sophomores Zoe Crute, Lizbeth Payano, and Mia Wilson, and freshmen Hawa Sturr and Chloe Megeath.

Ninth graders nabbed several honors at last week’s upper school science fair. Winning high honors were freshmen Helena Ikenberry and Alicia Campbell, Lucas Roemer and Max Regardie, Oliver Krisetya and Miles Tiller, and Zoe Edelman and Hawa Sturr., Niko Davis, and Una Yarsky. Also honored were Lydia Moore, Such Mulholland and Aviel Honey,  Will Monti and Ketan Mampara, Isaac Epstein, Nazzy Fisher, Joshua Perrin, Jalen Richardson, Paul Mwombela, Griffin Smith and Robbie Mirabello, Aaliyah Hudson and Lisa Trejo, Gabby Rodriguez and Coree George,  Each pair  or single conducted research based on a hypotheses, collected data, and evaluated the results in order to present their work to parents, faculty, friends, and visiting judges. The event, held last Thursday in the MPR, will be followed by a trip to the Citywide STEM fair.

Seniors and Mr. Day’s Honors English 10 will attend the Shakespeare Theatre Company production of Hamlet next week.  The play, directed by Michael Kahn and starring Michael Urie as Hamlet, focuses on a Danish prince trying to avenge the murder of his father. In previous years, students have seen Othello, The Comedy of Errors, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Henry IV, and Romeo and Juliet performed.
