Best at Chess!

Cooper Campus fifth grader Nikolas Fertakis-Perkins earned third place among unrated players his age in the US Chess Federation’s 2022 National K-12 Grade Championship tournament at National Harbor. This was Nikolas’ first tournament. The K-6 Grade Tournament is in Baltimore in May, and Nikolas hopes to return and bring classmates for a School Team.

Afternoon of Arabian Nights

Sixth graders took part in a winter performance of Arabian Nights before winter break started. The performance was directed by their theater teacher Mr. Baldwin. The play focuses on Scheherazade’s tales used to prevent her husband, the cruel ruler Shahryar from murdering her after 1,001 nights of stories.

Holiday Hijinks!

Fifth graders at Cooper Campus had a movie night the Thursday before winter break started, and the sixth grade had a Homecoming Dance. The dance was DJ’d by Epic Situation, a DJ who is also a Washington Latin parent.  Students enjoyed starting the holiday with movies and music.

Wrangling Wrestlers

The Upper School wrestling team had its first meet against Jackson Reed, Thomas Jefferson, and Roosevelt HS before winter break. The team was lead by their advisor, science teacher Mr. Torrence, and senior wrestlers Zemen Sium and Jackson Lewis. Freshman Preston Olander brought seven years of wrestling experience to the match. The team won 3-2, beating Wilson/Jackson Reed twice this year, and Potomac School once.

Better Sweaters

Students were invited to wear their silliest holiday sweaters and dressdown attire for the last day before break to send off the holiday in style. Mr. Kelly has been showcasing his own holiday sweater collection, including one sweater featuring the Power Rangers!
