Ninth graders Danielle Chandler, Michela Irving and former middle school student Sebastian Richardson were featured in a podcast talking about their summer reading from last year, a historical fiction book called Refugee by Alan Gratz. The episode was taped last year, but recently published by Book Club For Kids.

The Hook, the bi-annual showcase of upper students performing music, poetry, comedy, or other creative endeavors will be this Friday at 4pm in the library. The library will be transformed into a literary salon atmosphere, complete with bean bag chairs, pillows, and blankets, and sparkle lights. The event is organized by seniors MK Wilson, Benny Weinberger, Nora Butler, and Trinity Rich with help from advisor upper school English teacher Mr. Hotchkiss.

On Sunday November 24, fifth graders took part in the fall Girls on the Run 5K. It was a bit cold and wet, but these fast females persisted! The fifth grade girls running team is advised by Ms. Eleby-El.

On Friday November 22, the middle school girls soccer team won the Capital Cup Championship 6-1 against Brightwood EC Public School. The game was played at RFK stadium. The girls scored 4 goals in the second half to solidify their 2-1 half-time lead. Eighth grader Tillie Freed scored a hat trick and won MVP for the game. The team is coached by seventh grade science teacher Ms. Hinkson.

The middle school boys’ basketball team, coached by middle school team Mr. Coleman, won their games this week, scoring 49-31 against Basis, after besting Meridian Public Charter School last week by a thirty point spread. The team also played E.L. Haynes on Thursday.

Seniors participated in the same-day admissions event in the MPR, hosted by the college counseling office Wednesday. Several colleges visited, and interviewed 20 Washington Latin students and 30 additional seniors from E.L. Haynes and DCI public charter schools. Students also worked hard last week to complete early applications by the Nov. 15 deadline. Congratulations to our seniors.
