On Tuesday the Honors English 12 class travelled to the Cambridge, MD to visit the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitor Center. The students earned ranger badges for their careful and thorough approach in viewing the exhibit. One major theme for the class this year is journeys, featuring voyages of all types, including of course the Underground Railroad to freedom.
Thursday afternoon will feature readings of Edgar Allen Poe’s spookiest work int he library after school in our first ever “Poe-Chella). Science teacher Elisa Shapiro and Brian Hotchkiss will co-sponsor this Poe themed event with librarians Sereena Hamm and Jennifer Abercrombie. Come enjoy some Poe this Thursday from 3:30 to 5pm in the library classroom. Spooky snacks, Poe readings and escape room-type puzzles await all viewers!
Our school’s Quiz Bowl Club had its first “It’s Academic” competition on Saturday at NBC 4 Studio. The team of junior Harry Hirsch, and seniors Jasper Ferncrombie andThomas Coulon, supported by junior alternate Oliver Stevens, faced off against teams from Wakefield High School and St. Albans School. Thanks to a perfect team round, we finished with the victory. Special thanks to all who came out to support us and please congratulate the boys! Saturday’s competition will be broadcast on NBC4 on January 12th. We will compete in the next round sometime in early February against other first-round winners. The team is advised by math teacher Mr. Salazar with help from Emeritus Coach and team founder Mr. Benjamin.
