It was an amazing spring for Washington Latin’s teams. Middle School track and field completed their season with a fantastic finish on Saturday at the PCSAA championships. The middle school girls finished in second place overall with many individual medals. The team is led by Coach Callum, Coach K, and Coach Fisher.. Varsity track and field boys and girls both finished 3rd place at the PCSAA championships. Coach Dreux and Coach Callum adviseedb the varsity team. Girls on the Run held its season ending 5K on Sunday at Anacostia Park. The team is coached by Ms. Eleby El, Coach Tucker and Coach Cook. Middle School baseball and Middle School ultimate frisbee had big wins this week, with baseball besting KIPP on Tuesday, and middle school frisbee flying above Deal for a smashing 15-5 win. Weather-permitting, Middle School baseball will play against Basis for the PCSAA championships today at RFK Fields at 4:30.

Wednesday was the first in-person Art Show since 2019. Students in both Ms. Malchionno and Ms. Coleman’s class displayed their work in the MPR, showcasing the varied media and styles students learned in art this year.

Ms. Grant took sections of DC History on a walking tour of U Street and to the MLK library on Friday, May 13. Other stops included Ben’s Chili Bowl and other historical spots along the way. Students also visited a Metro PCS store in Shaw that has been playing go-go music since 1995. The trip gives a taste of the history and culture of the U Street area and explains how the area has developed and changed over the last 60 years.

Mr. Liu’s government classes interviewed the U.S. Attorney and Deputy U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, FBI Agents and a U.S. Marshall and a DC Superior Court Judge. They observed a trial at the DC Superior Court. The hosts had volunteered earlier this year in the DC Circuit Historical Society Mock Court Program. They all said that our students asked great questions and really enjoyed meeting them.

Both the girls’ varsity softball team and varsity boys’ baseball were champions of the Public Charter School Athletic Association after winning their games last Friday. This week varsity baseball beat Dunbar on Tuesday, but lost to Wilson on Wednesday, while varsity softball fell to National Cathedral School. Both middle school and varsity lacrosse played on Monday, and track and field will play on Saturday at the PG Sports & Learning Complex. Middle school baseball beat DCI on Wednesday to earn the top seed in the PCSAA championship.
