Seeing Stars

Sixth grade scientists at the Cooper Campus took part in a unit called “We’re All Just Stardust,” focused on astronomy.  Students explored different objects in space and learned about the celestial origins of matter. The final project of the unit, titled “What’s Out There?” involved researching an additional space topic of interest including nearby galaxies, comets, stars small and large, and black holes. Students explored several academic web sites and prepared a 4 slide presentation teaching the basics of their topic. With student permission, slides will be made available on schoology to allow other students to access information about these topics. This is the second research based project of the unit following “Welcome to Space” in which students created advertisements for planets and planetoids in our solar system. The class is taught by Mr. Jeremenko.
