Do you have another child that you want to come to Latin? Here is everything you need to know!
We love having multiple children from the same family attend Latin! We are always glad when parents want to bring their other children to the school. This is why we offer enrolled sibling preference, but it is not a guarantee.
Below are tips about how to ensure your child has the best chance of getting a seat at Latin:
- All new-to-Latin students must apply through the MySchoolDC lottery.
- You request sibling preference through the lottery. In your child’s MySchoolDC application, you indicate that you have a child enrolled already and that you are requesting sibling preference. Our admissions team approves these preferences before the lottery runs in late March. (If you did not see this option in the application, please contact us at admissions@latinpcs.org – we can help!)
- Enrolled sibling preference is the top preference offered at Washington Latin, followed by faculty, and offered sibling preference. These preferences apply within the Equitable Access program, too!
- Note that our admissions team may reach out to you if there are any questions about applying the preference. For example, if you have never mentioned this child on your Latin student’s enrollment documents, we will seek additional information from you.
- MySchoolDC will not allow a preference to extend to a sibling from a student in 12th grade (a “terminal year”). This is a DC-wide policy. Please keep this in mind: your Latin senior cannot help your younger child get a seat at Latin.
- Most importantly, please remember to apply by the lottery deadline!
- Monday, February 2nd – Grades 9-12 lottery deadline
- Monday, March 2nd – PreK3 – 8th grade lottery deadline
- If you do not apply by the deadline, sibling preference will still be applied! Note, however, that your child will be ranked behind all other applicants with sibling preference in the grade for which they are applying.
- Please note: approval of sibling preference does not guarantee that your child will receive a match in the lottery or a waitlist offer after that, especially in grades when Latin does not open seats, including 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
