Support Equitable Funding for Public Charter Schools!

Mayor Bowser is putting the finishing touches on next year’s DC education budget – help us get the full financial support public charter schools need!

As a member of DC’s charter school community, you know firsthand the difference a well-resourced school makes in a child’s life. That’s why we’re reaching out today with an urgent ask.

Mayor Bowser is putting the finishing touches on next year’s DC education budget — and right now, charter schools are facing a significant funding gap. DCPS schools are set to receive nearly $88 million outside the normal funding formula for basic needs like utilities and teacher bonuses. Charter schools won’t see a dollar of it. The result? About $1,850 less per student — money that could go toward your child’s classroom, teachers, and programs.

We’re calling on Mayor Bowser to fund charter schools equitably in FY27 by running all school costs through the Uniform Per Student Funding Formula (UPSFF). Charter schools are public schools, and every DC child deserves the same resources.

The Mayor’s budget goes to the Council in just a few weeks. With 47,000 charter school students across the District, our voices together can make a real difference. Thank you for being part of this community — and for speaking up for our kids.
