There will be a lot happening at Cooper this summer – read on to learn more!
Summer School
June 22 – July 24, 2026
Cooper offers summer school classes for academic strengthening. Enrollment in these summer courses is “invitation only” (meaning we will let students and their families know if they need to plan on taking a summer school class.) MAGIS (our aftercare program) will be available for students after classes end. There will not be Washington Latin bus service during the summer.
Note that any student who must take a remedial course will receive notification of that directly from the Cooper Academic Team.
In addition, Cooper and 2nd Street Upper School students will have the opportunity to take elective courses together at the 2nd Street Campus during summer school.
Electives registration open through Saturday, February 28
This is for elective courses only. Please review the Summer School Course Guide to learn more about the offerings.
Summer School for Upper School – calendar and schedule
Summer School runs from Monday, June 22 – Friday, July 24.
- Session 1 – June 22 through July 8
- Session 2 – July 9 through July 24
Please note! Students may only miss one day of a session to earn credit for the summer course.
Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:15 am to 1:45 pm and include both a recess and a lunch break for students. See the Upper School schedule for the summer (please refer to page 2).
Why take electives in Summer School?
Washington Latin’s rigorous graduation requirements include several elective courses, such as DC History, Health, Music, and Government. Each of these is a semester course. Taking these courses in the summer can make it easier for students to schedule full-year courses, such as taking an additional year of world language or an AP course.
How will course placement work this year?
These Upper School electives will be a mix of students from both campuses. Course placement will not happen until registration closes. At that time, Summer School Director at 2nd Street, Ms. Amy Brock, will work together with the campus Principals to place students from both campuses in summer electives. Priority is given to students closest to graduation. Students and families will be notified of course placement in the following weeks.
5th Grade Orientation
July 14 – 24, 2026
Cooper offers new student orientation for our rising 5th graders Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July 24 (weekdays) from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm with the option to stay until 5:00 pm with MAGIS aftercare. As during the school year, MAGIS is a fee-based program, free for families who qualify for the Free/Reduced Meals Program. Lunch will also be provided to students enrolled in MAGIS.
This orientation gives students an introduction to The Latin Way, the school facilities, our teachers, and each other. We offer a mix of activities, including some off-campus field trips.
For any new-to-Cooper students joining in other grades, including 9th, more information will follow!
