Many of our students participate in swim clubs and teams throughout the city, though we do not have an official school swim team. That didn’t stop these student-athletes and parents from taking initiative to create Washington Latin Swim! Dive into this story to hear about the accomplishments of these remarkable swimmers.
Although Washington Latin does not formally have an official swim team, many students at both campuses compete in outside-of-school clubs to stay active in the water. This year, these students wanted to take their competition further, and represent Washington Latin Athletics in DC Public School swim meets! With the support of some committed parents, they were able to make this vision a reality.
DCPCS Inaugural Meet
On Sunday, February 1, 2026, swimmers from both Washington Latin campuses, representing both the Middle and Upper Schools, competed in the DC Public Charter Schools Inaugural Swim Meet at Howard University. The meet was proudly hosted by Washington Latin, alongside DC International (DCI), BASIS DC, and Sojourner Truth PCS, with Jackson-Reed and School Without Walls also participating. A huge kudos to our Washington Latin parents who volunteered their time and energy to ensure the meet ran smoothly by keeping time, organizing lanes, and other support. It was truly a collaborative effort and a great example of community partnership at its best, and thanks to Coach Ian Walton for stepping in to lead the Lion swimmers!
Special shout-out to Lilian Walton (AJC ’29) for her outstanding performance and contributions throughout that event. Likewise, we are grateful to her parents, Rose and Ian Walton, for their coaching and many other forms of support for the Lions, and all of the committed parents of these student-athletes!

Championship Meet
Less than two weeks later, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, some of our Upper School students were invited to compete in the DCSAA Swimming Championships hosted at Catholic University. The meet was a full-day event, with ten Latin swimmers participating, and Cooper parent Coach Rose supporting the team’s efforts for the day.
The emergence of this student and parent-led swim team highlights the many ways that members of our community take initiative, and we are so proud of them for making this happen. Congratulations to our swimmers and especially our seniors for a great end to the season!
