The latinpcs.org website has a new look – and a new way of finding all the information you need about your children’s experience at either of our campuses. Read on to learn more about how to use the site and related email communications!
What’s New?
New Look!
The look of the Washington website has changed! Thanks to funding from the Fondo de Crecimiento para Escuelas Charter and the great work of OpenBox9, we have a new look and feel for our online presence. Keep watching for more content to be added during the school year!
New Features!
The website has a few notable features to make it accessible for all.
Language Translation
This is available on every page. Click on the globe icon in the upper right-hand corner of any page and select your language.
Site-wide Search
We heard you! There is a search function at the top of every page, and you can also search resources and posts by topic.
New information-sharing approach
We improved how we share information with families. We know there is a lot of information pushed out to families, whether in all-campus newsletters (Legenda) or various emails from members of the faculty. The latinpcs.org website will serve as your one-stop database for all information we share with you.
Families pages
Start your online search at one of the families’ pages of our website.
- Familias latinas – Find Latin-wide information, including policies, shared calendar, faculty directory, and more.
- Atletismo latino – Our Athletics program brings students from both the 2nd Street and Cooper Campuses together on interscholastic teams. Check out this page for information about the teams, wellness programs, and the athletics events calendar!
- 2nd Street Families – Access campus-specific information for 2nd Street, such as a campus event calendar, specific campus announcements, menus, etc.
- Familias Cooper – Access campus-specific information for the Cooper Campus.
While the entire site is public and open for all viewers, we encourage you to start on these pages to find the announcements and resources relevant to your experience.
Resources and Announcements
We have a database of information on the website! This makes it easy to search and find what you need. On the Families pages, you will see feeds of posts and resources, each with a specific type of information and categorized by topic.
As the name suggests, these are Washington Latin’s rules and regulations. They are compiled into a Family Handbook and listed individually on the website. In addition, the DC Public Charter School Board requires certain policies and other notices to be listed on a separate page, which is titled Transparencia.
These resources explain why and how we do at Latin. Check out the Explainer on Attendance, for example, if you want to understand how to excuse your child’s absences. More Explainers will be added as we continue to develop the website’s database.
Seasonal updates about a current event or activity at Latin. Here’s one example: there is a Back to School Get Together at 2nd Street. Within the announcement, you will also see links to other online resources, such as the Used Uniform Sales.
We have four calendar options on the website:
- En todo el continente latino
- Atletismo latino
- Campus de la calle 2
- Campus Cooper
If an event, such as a half day, is Latin-wide, it will appear on the Latin-wide calendar AND on the 2nd Street and Cooper calendars.
You can subscribe to the calendars (except Athletics, as this is managed by the DC Public Charter School League). You may also select how you view them – as a list or grid, and by week or month.
We will list events on these sites and ensure that all that information is current. If there is a date or schedule change, we will post an announcement.
We will be adding news stories to the website to feature what is happening at Latin. This might include a story about the 2nd Street Sea Lions Underwater Robotics team or the Cooper concert. Watch for these stories all year!
New Communications
De Facto – Weekly Campus Updates
We will continue to send a weekly newsletter to families at each campus, called De Facto, which will feature links to relevant announcements, Explainers, and events available on the website. As always, families do not need to sign up for newsletters or email notifications.
Legenda – Monthly Newsletter for families
El Legenda will also continue, but less frequently and with more news and profile stories. Again, families do not need to subscribe.
De Novis – External Newsletter
We send our extended community – donors, partners, alumni, etc. – a newsletter called De Novis (Latin for What’s New). Your extended family might want to subscribe. Families do not need to subscribe, as much of the information will be the same as Legenda, but you are welcome to!
