Washington Latin administers a range of assessments for students, both our own and those of other organizations. Read on to learn more about each of these assessments and their specific purpose in measuring academic performance and progress.
Testing is an important part of public education. At Washington Latin, we use assessments to determine students’ growth (how much progress have they made?) and achievement (at what level can they perform?)
Some assessments are created by our teachers for a particular subject and class – quizzes, tests, and final exams. Others are national or DC-wide assessments – MAP, DC CAPE, PSAT/SAT, and AP exams. Here is a snapshot:
- MAP helps track student growth – how much progress is your child making?
- DC CAPE determines whether students are meeting DC academic standards
- PSAT/SAT are optional assessments considered in some college admissions processes
- Final exams created by our teachers that assess student mastery of concepts taught in a particular course
- Advanced Placement (AP) exams are the final, national assessment for AP courses
