Several juniors and seniors will participate as jurors in a mock trial with attorney general Karl Racine next week. Their day-long field trip will focus on the justice system. Eighth graders also take a field trip in February to visit the D.C. Superior Court as a culmination of their justice units in English and their lessons on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in history class. The theme of justice is one of the important issues that reoccurs in the curriculum in different grades through texts like To Kill a Mockingbird, Inherit the Wind, and 12 Angry Men and a nonfiction research unit that seniors engage in for English class on the justice system.
