The safety of your children is our number one priority. Now at the midpoint of the school year, we want to remind all of you about our afterschool policies, which are hugely important in terms of student safety.
What is the Afterschool Policy?
As we have shared in the Family Handbook, the policy states that “students may not stay after school without being actively engaged in a designated afterschool activity or without express permission from a teacher” (pg. 43).
All Middle School students must be supervised and accounted for while in the building or on school grounds after dismissal. Middle School students may not stay after tutorial (beyond 3:45, or 2:40 on Wednesdays) without being actively engaged in a designated afterschool activity or without the express permission from a teacher. Some examples include: athletic practices, play rehearsal, science fair preparation, debate, working on pieces for an art show, and choir practices.
Where should my child go if they need to stay after school?
If your child needs to stay on campus after school, they can join MAGIS until 6:00 pm from Monday – Thursday! You may register for a session, or drop-in if their participating in MAGIS is unexpected. Click the button to read more about the MAGIS afterschool program.
Why is this a policy?
Any time students are in the building or on school grounds, they are our responsibility, one we take very seriously. We must be able to account for each student until they are returned to you, the parents. If you have any other questions, please reach out to Principal Kelly at jkelly@latinpcs.org, or Director of Middle School, Ms. Barroso at ebarroso@latinpcs.org.
