Nota Bene: Be sure to have paper and pencil at your side while you complete this work. Most of these skills cannot be completed successfully without writing down your thinking.
Why do we have Summer Math work?
You have worked hard throughout the school year to strengthen your math skills. Just like any skill, it’s important to practice to keep your abilities sharp. Summer Math gives you a little bit of practice for each week so that you can start the next school year strong. Our math classes move quickly beginning in 6th grade and students who have a solid grasp of prerequisite skills are better prepared for the learning to come.
I don’t have a device at home. Is there a paper version I can complete?
Yes. Paper copies of the assignment will be available at the front desk at Cooper (4301 Harewood Road NE) as well as at our 2nd Street campus (5200 2nd Street NW).
Please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Moore (lmoore@latinpcs.org) with any questions at all!
Each grade has assigned required reading, as listed below.
- 5th grade: The Night Diary
- 6th grade: The Epic Fall of Arturo Zamora
- 7th grade: The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Young Reader’s Edition
- 8th grade: Look Both Ways
- 9th grade: Binti: The Complete Trilogy
Some notes!
- Every Cooper student received a copy of their summer reading in the last days of school, with their name written inside. Replacement books should be purchased by the family, if needed.
- New Cooper students may pick up their summer books at the 2nd Street Campus during July (last day is Friday, July 25).
- This reading is REQUIRED. Students should read the books and be able to discuss the reading in their English classes at the start of the school year.
- Choice reading lists are also available for those ready to read beyond what’s required! Cooper’s English teachers have curated a trove of choice summer reading books for every grade! Enjoy!
